Sugar-Free Challengers: Carly's story

< Back to videos

Meet the Sugar-Free Challengers. These brave four women and one man are all taking on the 5 Weeks to Sugar-Free challenge, for various reasons... they all have amazing stories which I feel privileged to have heard. So, we had a chat and I set them off on their challenge with some tips and recipes.

Carly, 26 and a newly qualified paramedic, is a single mum to her six-year-old boy.

‘I have always had a huge interest of looking after my health,’ she explains. ‘Some good months and some bad, but all in the hope of gaining the correct knowledge to fully improve my lifestyle.’

‘My line of work, long days, shift patterns and attempting to work around childcare was always going to be a juggling act - but the state of my health should never be put on hold due to this.’

‘I am aware of the detrimental impact that a bad diet could have on me generally, especially when I think of the negative impact this could have on my ability to perform for my patients. That encourages me to make a severe change to my health and mind.’

‘I tend to make my own variation of chocolate or bread where possible , but I’ve never had the courage to shake off sugar from my day-to-day habits, despite being totally aware of the awful effects it has on my health acutely and chronically!’

‘I am fully aware of my need for change and wish to document the transition for others to see its worth! Thanks for this opportunity and good luck to those involved!’

Meet the rest of the Challengers.
