'​This morning my wonderful father in law passed away'

This morning my wonderful father in law passed away, at home with his wife, Judy, by his side. 

His four sons were also there. He'd been ill for a year with a brain tumour. He never complained. He was the most amazing horticulturalist. He lectured in the States and would amaze and enthralled us all with his knowledge. 

In his final year he even did some presenting on American TV!!! He was brilliant...!! He sparked my passion for trees and Matthew and I continue with our goal, to plant at least one tree (now in his name) every year. He was very funny, and a true gentleman.

He was an amazing brother and uncle and he was a fantastic dad, I know that because his sons are such lovely men, he was a fantastic grandpa (popalops) to his nine grandchildren and we will all miss him so much. 

He was brave. Braver than anyone should ever have to be but I know that his last year was made bearable through the love and support of his family. In particular his wife, who supported and cared for him and never left his side. He has left a gigantic void... 

But his legacy lives on... Through all the pupils he has taught, all the beautiful gardens he has created, and his children and grandchildren. 

Rest in peace Ian. Go find Caroline, she will look after you x
